    Quick & Easy Shoe Storage

Our back door is our most used entrance so therefore our shoes started to pile up there. It got to the point where we had 4-5 pairs of shoes by the back door at any given time and honestly it started to drive me crazy. My mom actually found a reel on Instagram of someone attaching hooks to a board, attaching that board to the wall, and then hanging shoes on the hooks. I thought it was a good idea and seemed like a pretty quick and easy solution for a pain point in my life. ? Instead of attaching an entire board to the wall though, I decided to…

    Board & Batten Nursery Wall

My friend got pregnant with her first baby towards the end of 2021 and she asked me if I’d help her turn one of her spare bedrooms into the perfect nursery for her little one. Of course I couldn’t say no! She sent me ideas of what she was thinking and then I sent her more inspiration pics to try to get an idea of what she wanted. We settled on a classic board and batten grid style accent wall. We measured the wall and then used a board and batten wall calculator (like this one: https://www.calconic.com/calculator-widgets/board-batten-wall-calculator/60e9e0816db6df002a0369d9) to figure out the spacing and how many boards we should buy. After…

    Limewashed Brick Wall

To wrap up my parents’ porch renovation, my mom wanted to limewash the brick wall that the wardrobe we built butts up to. She felt like limewashing the wall would add some warmth to the space and make it look cozier and more inviting. I definitely think we accomplished that, but you’ll have to let me know what you think! Here’s the before of the wall before we did anything and then after we painted and installed new flooring.                                   The process of limewashing is actually pretty simple, especially if you use a quality…

    Built In Wardrobe with Storage

My mom and I took on the largest DIY project either of us had ever done by deciding to completely renovate her back porch/laundry room from top to bottom. I have several other posts about what all we did if you missed those (LVP install, built in bench, shelving unit, and laundry folding table), but this is the final one! My parents both work outside the home and have uniforms for their jobs. Their work clothes have almost always lived on the back porch in old wardrobes that we sold when we started the porch renovation. They were old and we knew they weren’t going to fit into the new…

    Basic Laundry Folding Table

When my mom and I decided to renovate her back porch literally from top to bottom, we wanted to make it as functional as possible. We added a bench with storage when you come in the back door, a massive shelving unit to store canned goods and other miscellaneous home items, a wardrobe type area to store work clothes for her and my dad (post coming soon!), and lastly, a laundry folding table next to the washer and dryer to make that mundane task a little easier. My mom browsed Pinterest and found examples of what she liked, but ultimately, like most things, we came up with the design on…

    Built In Shelving

In February 2021, my mom and I decided to completely renovate her back porch. It was a huge undertaking and is therefore a multipart series. This is part 3 of 5. ? You can find part one about how we leveled the floor here and part two about how we built a bench with shoe storage here. Once I built the bench, I felt more confident to tackle the largest project in the space which was a massive shelving unit. My mom wanted to use it as a pantry since her kitchen doesn’t have one, along with extra storage for tools, paint, cat food, and other miscellaneous home items that didn’t…

DIY Built In Bench with Storage

In February 2021, my mom and I decided to renovate her back porch. We began by throwing away a lot of junk, decluttering, and cleaning. We removed everything from the space that we could and shuffled around the rest to redo the floor. I have a separate post here where you can read all about that process. Once the new flooring was installed and we (mostly she) got the front half of the porch painted, we started brainstorming what kind of built ins she wanted for the space to make it more functional.                                   …

    DIY Limewashed Fireplace

Painting or limewashing brick is a bit controversial, but sometimes I feel like it’s the best option given the circumstances. I’ve heard people say that painting brick will be the equivalent of putting carpet over hardwoods like our grandparents did in the 70s. Obviously since I’m writing this post, I think it’s fine if it’s done right. Maybe you’ll agree with me after reading through! This all honestly began because the wall above the fireplace began to crack a few years after we moved in and I realized that the mantel was likely too large and not attached appropriately to the wall. The mantel had begun to pull off the…

    Installing Luxury Vinyl Planks

Back in February, I told my mom that I wanted to makeover her back porch. To be frank, it was a hot mess. My parents moved into their current house in the summer of 1990 and I don’t think they’ve ever touched their back porch. Calling it a porch might be confusing to some as it’s entirely enclosed with walls and doors. It’s more of mudroom/laundry room/storage room and also their most used entrance. I’ll include some pics of the before below so you can get an idea of what we were working with. The plan from the get-go was to make the space more functional. Before, it was ugly,…

Super Easy DIY House Number Sign

We’ve lived in our house for close to 5 years now and we’ve never had our house number actually on the house. Our mailbox has the address, but I feel like it’s a little hard to see and I’ve always wanted numbers on the house too just to make it easier for friends and family to find us when they come to visit. A few months ago I decided to challenge myself to make a sign with just things I already had on hand, except for the actual numbers of course. Here’s how it went! I thought I had pics of the process but it seems I really only took…
